PLO 8- Demonstrate the ability to make informed decisions regarding the use of technology in support of learning and leadership.

I have rank PLO 8 first, because instructors need to be able to make informal decision regarding the use of technology in support of learner and leaders. This is because leaders or instructors to be trained and educated on how to use and implement technology tools into their curriculum plan. How can a teacher teach if they haven’t been taught how to use the technology tools to make informal decisions (Clark, 2015)? The more experience and training they have the more they can reach each student. The situational theory is where leaders choose the course of action based on situational conditions and circumstances (Amanchukwu, 2015).

With the use of technology the instructor is expected to be the most knowledgeable and have the most experience in using and applying the technology for learning. Implementing technology into my work setting requires my knowledge of using and applying of technology. In order for my students to obtain the sympathetic of the use and purpose of the technology my knowledge is significant. The redesign activity is based cognitvism/pragmatism principle. The outcome the learning is not only dependent on what and how I present the instructions, but on what learner does to process this information (Dabbage, 2006).

Activity

The activity that I redesigned comes from EDU 649. The instructions for the activity will be done with the Powtoon. https://www.powtoon.com  Powtoon is software that creates animated presentations and videos. The original assignment is about how teachers use media to carry out instructions. Teachers using technology for instructions will be steps outside of traditional ways of delivering instructions (Carton Edu, 2014).

Establishing an educational system with a data warehouse is like flying a plane without a pilot. Without enough information and data teachers cannot make good decisions about educating their students. To ensure that my students are receiving appropriate education I will use the data driven decision making (D3M) process. My D3M process will be done through collecting of data from my three classes of fourth grades. I will use the computer to develop my own different tests for math, science and reading. Each student will take the tests.

With the data from the tests will help me to make better decision about how to develop my curriculum plan based on these three subjects. I will create the tests by using Create A Quiz. http://www.pc-shareware.com/quiz.htm. This is software where you create your own quizzes, multiple choice and fill-in-the blank tests. It creates and administers electronic tests and quizzes and others on a window PC computer (PC Shareware, n.d). I chose this course of action because of the differences in the students learning styles.

My concern is that if I approach each student with same teaching and learning style it will fail over half of my students in the classes. This is my circumstances and conditions that I am looking at. All students will have to use computers or their personal technology tool where I can download the tests to. The teacher will have to give the password on the computers. The teacher is the only to have access to the tests. Teacher gives no copyrights to tests to any other teacher.

Challenges

It was a challenge to find an assignment to do with PLO 8. It was a challenge redesign the original assignment. This is because the assignment deals with the use of media only. I have to implement an activity. I have to also implement particular technology tools to help deliver my goal.

The use of Create A Quiz, computers and students personal technology tools helped to over that challenge. The technology tools had to be based on the student’s abilities, desired outcomes and the environment. The activity is composed of three different classes. Another challenge was to develop a way for the students to not cheat by passing the tests around to other students. Allowing access to the tests is only for the teacher.

This help to overcome that challenge. The password to access the tests also help to overcome the challenge. Allowing students to use their own personal technology tools like Ipads, Smartphone and tablets was a challenge. Students could save or copy to share with only. The will have a app attach to the test that prohibited saving, coping and sharing the tests. No one will have copyright to the tests.

Critical Thinking Questions

Students need an introduction to all lessons and activities. This is their instructions and expectations. Media will carry information between a source and receiver (Newby, Stepich, Lehman,  Russell, & Ottenbreit-Leftwich, 2011). When an instructor is using media they are stepping outside of the traditional way of delivering instruction (Carlton Edu, 2014). Media should be use first because it motivates learners to learn at the beginning of the activity. It makes the learner to want to see what is next. The use of the media helps make learning to be simulating experiences.

It gives the learner a sense of hearing and seeing learning in the process. Media can give students demonstrations before practice (Newby, Stepich, Lehman,  Russell, & Ottenbreit-Leftwich, 2011). When choosing a media to present your content there are something that should be consider. Knowing who your audiences are is very important. The needs to know what resources are available can help to make the right selection of media. The media need to match the learning and teaching requirements (Bates, 2015).

The media need to be able to explain the given task. There should be a concern about the task and cost. Selecting media is based on the needs of the learners, desired outcomes and environment (Newby, Stepich, Lehman,  Russell, & Ottenbreit-Leftwich, 2011).  Media allows students to become active users of information. Technology delivers a more personalized learning to all students that have the skills. The use of different media can help prepare students with skills essential for work and life in this 21st century (Moeller, 2011).

Media motivate students to learn. Different media can deliver information to learners according to their needs. A lot of students have different types of special needs. With the use of technology their needs can be met. There are media for visual and hearing. The text-in-speech can assist a variety of students. With the use of media it can personalize learning for each student with or without special needs.

There are assistive technologies for students with special needs. Assistive technologies will benefit these students and students without needs. Media can be used for student’s motivation, academic skills and social development (Zorigian, n.d). Because students do not learn at the same time or way the use of technology can put these students on the pace to learn anywhere or anytime at their own pace and way. Technology has opened many doors for students with and without special needs in way we never imagined ('App'lying technology for special needs, 2016). The relationship between principles of media utilization and student learning is that the media is the vehicle that delivers instruction. The students learn both with and from the vehicle.

Technology is the cognitive mind tool that creates a constructivist environment. Media utilization provides students with the skills that are needed in our society today (Clark, 2010). Technology allows students to remain curious and open to new experiences. The use of media in education is changing every day. Students need to be able to rely to the changes and be prepared to integrate media when it is available. The students that have prior knowledge with the use of media can use that knowledge to add to new media.

Here they can apply their critical thinking skills to embed in the new media. Media help designers to turn their instructions into different ways of communicating and transferring learning concepts. It is a way to format, stored and deliver instructions to learner’s media designing of instructions that extra edge to reach students are level of learning. With the use of technology learners can connect to real word situations to learn from (Kozma, 1994). Media is used by designers to gain learners attention. It can be through the use of music or pictures that capture their attention.

Traditional lectures can be made to come alive with the use of media. Different media can be used in one assignment. In this way it can be a tool that touches on different teaching and learning styles. Media allows teachers to display complex ideas in a short period of time. In other words, it can make learning plain, clear and simple (Carlton Edu, 2014). Media is often under the control of computer. The computer has wide applications in instructions (Newby, Stepich, Lehman,  Russell, & Ottenbreit-Leftwich, 2011).
