PLO 3- Design learning opportunities that apply technology-enhanced instructional strategies to support the need of all learners.

PLO 3 and 7

PLO 3- Design learning opportunities that apply technology-enhanced instructional strategies to support the need of all learners.

PLO 7- Utilize technology to collect and analyze data, interpret results and communicate findings.

I combined PLO 3 and 7 because they deal with the elements that are taken to support needs of all learners. In a classroom composed of different learning styles. Each students needs to be represented in the instructional strategies. Tailoring instruction to meet each student’s needs is essential in learning. The differentiated instructional should be based on student’s readiness, interests and learning profile (Tomlison, 2015).

The learning activity that is design to apply technology to enhance instructional strategies to meet the needs of all students learning gives data that can help all learners. When it is collected and analyzed it become the resources that can help develop better educational plan. Technology can collect the data and interpret the results. Then the instructor applies results to all students’ needs. Students are different and learning different.

Technology can collect and analyze data at the same time students are learning. Students can learn at their pace and style of learning with the use of technology. I rank PLO 3 and 7 third because the use of technology can supply data and results that can benefit all learners’ needs. These two PLOs together with design instructional strategies and data collected and communicate of the findings can allow students to go beyond their level of learning. PLO 3 use technology activity to support learners.  PLO 7 use technology gives more information that can advance student’s learning.

To redesign this assignment I have to use PLO 3 and 7. I had to use an activity using technology tools that demonstrate the collection, interpret results, analyze data and communicate findings. I had to also demonstrate how the instructional strategies use technology to support the needs of all learners. To do this I use the assignment from EDU 648. Instructor will implement many different technologies to enhance student’s technology skills.

Instructor will be students with assess to survey using SurveyMonkey. SurveyMonkey will allow instructor to create a survey to assess the subject of their choice. This survey tool will collect date and give results. Instructor will implement 10 questions. Each question will apply to the student’s knowledge of the use of technology in the educational system.

The instructor will present the use of iclicker to the by means of two videos https://youtu.be/czkW-fgEyfk and https://youtu.be/hvmqI4lu55c. These video will explain to the class about the use the tool. Instructor will then use the tool to interact will the class about their struggles and strengths in using technology for educate. This will done will presenting a PowerPoint using Jing presentation to introduce the expectation of the learning activity. The presentation will also give information about the use of technology tools for education.

After the students complete survey they will send the link to instructor e-mail. Instructor will take data from the survey and communicate the finding to the school staff. This will help the school staff to determine how much more do their curriculum plans need to be based on teaching technology skills and uses. “The SurveyMonkey is a great tech tool to use to collect data and analyze students’ interest data” (Rinkel, 2011). The data will be used to support all learners’ needs.

Instructor will develop a Jing presentation to present the results the survey to the class. In this presentation instructor will explain the importance of the use of technology skills in the 21st century. To support each students learning about the use of technology they will be given the opportunity to demonstrate their technology skills by presenting a presentation about the technology tool of their choice. This will be their formative assessment. I will develop a rubric to grade the student’s presentation. This rubric will consist of five criteria. In these criteria they will let students know what is expected of them to achieve a good grade.

The use of SurveyMonkey will be used again for summative assessment. Instructor will design a questionnaire that will be used as a test. This will enhance knowledge about the first survey that was done at the beginning. Students will develop a survey alone with the instructor for the whole school and invite the students and staff member to take the survey. The survey will be available on the school Facebook page.

The use of the ADDIE model helps me to design the assignment. The ADDIE model consists of five steps that were used to design these activities. The steps are analysis, design development, implementation and evaluation (Davis, 2-013). I accomplish the goal using technology to enhance learning to all learners. These activities are what I needed to better develop my curriculum plan about the use of technology in the class to meet all students needs.

The challenges that I had in redesigning this assignment is that I had to remember that I was using two PLOs. Using iclicker was a challenge, because was my first time using it. This will ensure that all students engaging and responses in the classroom discussions. This is an audience response system. The bonus of using this technology is like mostly all technology for learning. It gives immediately feedback. Redesigning the activities to engage students and instructor using technology to deliver learning and teaching was a challenge.

Incorporating Technology

Students will be group in three to a group. Each group will have a choice of three technology tools. The technology tools are PowerPoint and MindMesiter. These tools will provide students will a deeper understanding of the learning theories. Each technology tools will help to guide students learning process (What Is Successful Technology Integration? (2007). When each group choose the tool that they will use they will then demonstrate their knowledge of three learning theories.

The learning theories are cognitive theory, behavioral theory and social learning theory. They will present their presentation to the class. They will also explain which best describe their learning. Students are expected to evaluate each learning theory. They are to discuss the type of environment that enhance these theories.

Incorporating technology into your teaching does not mean to make the technology tool your main focus. It should be used to help students reach their goal of learning. Teachers should make should that they do not loss focus on the learning outcomes. Because with technology tools teachers can easily worry about or spend most on making should students can correctly use the technology tools. Studies have showed that student’s academic growth is higher in classrooms where teachers use technology regularly (Hamilton, 2007).

Each one of the technology has been used in some type in some type assignment in the classroom. All students are familiar with each technology tools. When teachers implement technology into their classroom to enhance their students learning they need to be prepare for some issues and challenges that they will encounter (Lever-Duffy and McDonald’s (2015). Students do not learn in the same way or at same time. So this is the reason that I am using two types of tools.  Students need to be exposed to as many used of technology tools as possible. Having literacy about technology and their uses will enhance student’s technology skills. Learning through the use of technology is a part of the 21st century learning (Lever-Duffy and McDonald’s (2015).

By integrating more than one technology for students to demonstrate their learning students will become part of their learning. This is because they will have a choice about their learning. Which tool will enhance their learning? Students will learn more when they are comfortable with tools or materials that enhance their learning. Students will become more involved and they will take control of their own learning (How to Integrate Technology. (2007).

This assignment is about learning theory. When a group picks PowerPoint to present their learning they will be able to display videos, audio and web links (Lever-Duffy and McDonald’s (2015). These displays should demonstrate information about each learning theory. When students are able to present their learning through unique opportunities other than essays, tests formative or summative they are activating their critical thinking skills (Incorporating Technology into Your Teaching. (n.d).This will help to cause long-tern memory.

When groups use MindMeister they will be able to visually organize ideas about each one of the learning theories. Students will use text and icons and then link them to one another to show relationship between theories (Lever-Duffy and McDonald’s (2015). Students can use their prior knowledge and link it to new knowledge. Students can develop a summary of the theories with a better understanding. With the use of technology embedded in the building of students understanding of the topic or subject they increase their level of learning.

The reason that I choose to use this technology tool the MindMesiter is that it offers individual learners and cooperative learning groups an opportunity to plan and see the relationship between the concepts that they have learned. Allowing students to clarify their thinking, understanding relationships and identifying their misconceptions is what I am hoping the MindMesiter will accomplish (Lever-Duffy and McDonald’s (2015). As students work in groups they can identify each other misconception. While students are doing the MindMeister they can see do the ideas or information line-up with what the teacher is looking for in the assignment. This technology tool can be a powerful instructional tool (Lever-Duffy and McDonald’s (2015).

With the use of PowerPoint in this assignment I hope that the students will work smarter. I also hope that it will motivate students to learn (Gallagher & Michael, (2005). I want the PowerPoint to not just a presentation, but to on build their knowledge of learning theory. I want learning to take place when creating the presentation and when students are presenting it. The beginning and the aftermath in learning is very important. PowerPoint and MindMesiter technology tools provide students the ability to develop creatively and problem-solving skills (Blair, 2012). This is when they display their mastery of the learning theories in meaningful ways.

Working together with technology in groups can be helpful for students whom classroom instructions is not enough to achieve mastery of the subject or topic. Groups working with technology can improve academic outcomes and improve success for students who are shy and self-conscious (Lever-Duffy and McDonald’s (2015). Students can come in their own way to demonstrating their learning through the technology tool that the group has chosen. Students group can have a spokesperson.  Each student in the group will still have to participate in presenting their knowledge.
